Robbery and theft charges have been brought against eight suspects who were involved in the robbery

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Robbery and theft charges have been brought against eight suspects who were involved in the robbery of a cigarette truck at a petrol station on the N1 in Grasmere on December 8. Stolen cigarettes with an estimated value of R1 million were recovered.

“The eight suspects robbed a cigarette truck at a petrol station on the N1 and transferred the cigarettes to a minibus. While on their way to Alveda Park, officers intercepted the suspects who were arrested. The suspects then led the officers to the location in Alveda Park,” said JMPD Superintendent, Wayne Minnaar.

A tip-off about a cigarette truck heist led the Soweto Flying Squad and Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) to Alveda Park where three suspects between the ages of 36 and 39 were arrested. Mondeor SAPS confirmed that the officers found stolen cigarettes in the suspects’ possession.
