Support: Major backing for Ridgeway Neighbourhood Watch

Head of Crime Line and the LEAD SA executive recently joined the members of the Ridgeway Neighbourhood Watch at a patrollers braai.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – The decision by residents to become proactive and mobilise themselves to assist crime fighting authorities by forming the Ridgeway Neighbourhood Watch (RNW), has received major support from Crime Line and Lead SA.

Head of Crime Line, Yusuf Abramjee and Lead SA executive, Catherine Constantinides together with the Gauteng

Community Police Board chairman, Andy Mashaile, joined the members of the neighbourhood watch recently to show their support.

Zubair Patel of the Ridgeway Neighbourhood Watch said, “The residents of the Ridgeway Extension area have decided that they will no longer be complacent victims of crime. The area served by the RNW covers all of the Ridgeway Extension area including a few streets in Mondeor and Winchester. We are not vigilantes and operate solely within the confines of the law. We partner with the Mondeor Police station, the local CPF and all the security companies that operate within our neighbourhood. We’ve been active for six months and have seen the fruits of our efforts pay off.”

Patel said there has been a decrease in the crime stats in the area and believes it is a testament to the efforts of the community patrollers.

“The RNW has grown into a real family. People now know more about each other, their neighbours and their neighbourhood. A recently held patrollers braai was well supported by the RNW family and was graced with the presence of Abramjee of Crime Line, Mashaile the Provincial Community Police Board chair, as well as the South’s very own Constantinides of Lead SA and Miss Earth. They all had words of encouragement and support as well as stellar advice for the success of RNW,” added Patel.
