Provincial Olympiad final held at Glenanda Primary

The Olympiad focused on all three disciplines of the economic management sciences (EMS) subjects namely economics, business studies and consumer financial education.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – The Gauteng Office of Consumer Affairs (GOCA) in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) hosted the Grade Seven Provincial Olympiad finals at the Glenanda Primary School on November 14.

Milly Viljoen, director for consumer education, awareness and stakeholder relations at GOCA said: “The skills that the competition envisaged to develop among learners are, among others, how businesses function, the role of money in the economy as well as consumer financial literacy; in essence, the aim of the competition is to encourage school learners to become consumer-wise entrepreneurs.”

The Olympiad focused on all three disciplines of the economic management sciences (EMS) subjects namely economics, business studies and consumer financial education. This was to inculcate a deeper understanding of the economy, to ensure that learners understood markets and financial management to subsequently become smart consumers.

Leading up to the provincial finals, learners competed at school, cluster and district levels.
