Eikenhof WI members learn about Chrismons

Guest speakers, Wendy Grobler and Hazel Hanslow, spoke to the members of Eikenhof Women’s Institute about Chrismons and what they represent.

SUIDEROORD – “Chrismons are Christmas decorations with Christian symbols on them. They help Christians to remember that Christmas is the celebration of Jesus’s birthday. They are often used on Christmas Trees in Churches and Christians homes. They were first developed by women of the Ascension Lutheran Church. Many churches display a Chrismon tree during the Advent and Christmas season decorated with handmade ornaments.

“Our interest in Chrismons began a while ago and we run a Chrismon workshop from Brackenhurst Methodist Church in the youth hall, 9 Toinette Street, Brackenhurst. Chrismons are never sold and are always given as a gift,” Wendy and Hazel said. WI members enjoyed the morning and made angels which they could take home and treasure.

If you are interested in the Chrismon workshop, phone Hazel on 083 378 4378.
