Olympiad finals at Glenanda Primary

Gauteng Office of Consumer Affairs (GOCA) in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) hosted the Grade eight provincial Olympiad finals at Glenanda

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Gauteng Office of Consumer Affairs (GOCA) in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) hosted the Grade eight provincial Olympiad finals at Glenanda Primary School on Saturday, October 31.

The Olympiad focused on three economic management science disciplines, economics, business studies and consumer financial education, to inculcate a deeper understanding of the economy and a love for the subject, and also to ensure that learners understand markets and financial management and subsequently become smart consumers.

Milly Viljoen, director for consumer education, awareness and stakeholder relations at GOCA said: “The skills that the competition envisages to develop among learners are, among others, how businesses function and the role of money in the economy, as well as consumer financial literacy. In essence, the aim of the competition is to encourage school learners to become consumer-wise entrepreneurs”.
