Damaged barrier will be replaced – JRA

The corner of Sneeuberg Street and Vorster Avenue has experienced its fair share of accidents.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Solly George, a Glenvista pensioner, is worried that the protection barrier at the corner of his home on Sneeuberg Street and Vorster Avenue is yet to be replaced by the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA).

The infamous corner has seen its fair share of accidents that reportedly often damage the wall of George’s property. After a June 22 accident on this corner, both George and Ward 23 Councillor, Paul Smit, reported the damaged barrier to the JRA and George believes that JRA should have fixed the barrier by now.

Smit said he was following up with the JRA but was unsure when the matter would be attended to. According to Smit in the last three years there has been as many as six accidents at this corner.

JRA operations manager of marketing and communications, Bertha Scheepers said: “We can confirm that this call was logged by a resident and we received another query from the ward councillor for a different area. The delay in replacing the damaged barrier is sincerely regrettable, as JRA endeavours to replace damaged barriers as soon as possible to ensure the road is secure. In this instance, stock has been ordered and the new guard rail will be erected by month end”.
