New pioneer of excellence at Randeor

There's a new sheriff in town at Randeor School

RIDGEWAY resident Ronwyn Morgan was appointed as Deputy Principal at Randeor School in Mondeor on August 1. The CHRONICLE caught up with Ronwyn and she spoke about her background and educational ambitions.

An inspiration in her own right, Morgan overcame a learning disability and acquired a Master’s Degree, Morgan was appointed as the Deputy Principal only after a year as Head of Department (HOD).

On her vision for the school, Morgan said: “My educational philosophy is a simple one, I believe that all children can learn. It is our responsibility to find out how they learn and then to facilitate that process. My vision is to see every learner achieve to their full potential, also to make sure that each and every learner realises how important they are to our community and also for them to take up their rightful place in society.”

When talking about her educational experience, Morgan said: “I graduated from WITS with my HDE in 2004. I started teaching a Winchester Ridge Primary School in 2005. I taught there for four year. It was an amazing time, I had great mentors and they helped me realise that there was so much more to teaching. I then applied for and was awarded a scholarship from the Mississippi Teacher Fellowship in the USA. They offered to pay for me to do my Masters in exchange for my teaching services in a teacher shortage area.

“So off I went with less than a $1000 in my pocket. I taught in the American Public School System for two and a half years while studying. I achieved a 4.0 GPA for my Masters in Special Ed. It nearly killed me.But I learnt that anything worth doing and achieving came with blood sweat and tears. I returned to South Africa in June 2011. I stared teaching at Poseidon Road Primary in Ennerdale and from there I went on to becoming a Learner Support Educator for the JHB South office of the GDE. However, in April 2014 I was appointed as the HOD of the scholastic department at Randeor School and the rest is history.”
