Twenty-year-old dragged into vehicle near Meredale

Attempted abduction of young man.

MEREDALE – While walking from Southgate to his home in Meredale, on Tuesday August 11 at about 12:15, a 20-year-old man was nearly abducted by two men who were in a white Ford Lexus 2012 model, with dark tinted windows.

The victim had passed by the Old Vereeniging Road and M2 highway when he heard hooting. He saw the vehicle and tried to see if he recognised the driver. He didn’t, so he walked on but turned to look back and saw a coloured man getting out of the car. The next minute another man, who was black, exited the vehicle and tried to drag the victim into the car.

A street vendor who recognised the 20-year-old saw what was happening, and as the car began to pull away, grabbed the young man by the feet and pulled him out of the Lexus.

“I heard one of the men say to the other, ‘This guy looks like he has money. His family will pay to get him back.’”

The victim described the coloured man as skinny, about 1.75 metres and wearing glasses and the black man, more heavily built at around 1.73 metres. Both were well dressed in long pants and long sleeved shirts.
