The great gift of good eyesight

Over ten lucky members of the community selected to receive a donation of free eye testing and glasses

SIXTEEN individuals from the South were blessed with the gift of free eye care from David Simons Optometrist in Glenvista on August 4.

With the assistance of Glenvista Five Residents Association’s Sarah Wissler and ward 124 councillor Tyrell Meyers, three learners from Forest Hill High School had their sight tested for free to determine whether they needed spectacles. These learners were part of a group of 16 individuals who were tested.

The eye tests, together with the donation of 16 eyeglasses, were a generous gift from David Simons in order to celebrate the optometrist’s 16th anniversary in business.

“Because we’ve been here for 16 years, we’ve decided to donate 16 pairs of glasses to those who need them and also to thank the Glenvista residents who have been supporting us. We reached out to Sarah Wissler and asked her to source 16 underprivileged people to receive donations and they will be tested,” said optometrist David Simons.

Meyers said he immediately thought of Forest Hill High School when he was approached by Wissler for candidates to benefit from this initiative.

“I organised people from underprivileged backgrounds in need of glasses and their eyes tested. We’ve gone out to all the communities and, in conjunction with some of our ward councillors, put together a group of people,” said Wissler.

She also noted that should members of the community know of elderly people or children who could do with a pair of glasses they should reach out to her on sarah@glen5ra.co.za
