Two arrested after cash-in-transit abandoned in Kibler Park

Two suspects were arrested following after a cash-in-transit vehicle was found abandoned in Kibler Park on Thursday, July 23.

KIBLER PARK – While two suspects were apprehended at the Kibler Park recreation centre, the other two escaped using a utility bakkie, they were later found at The Hill where a shootout ensued.

Earlier this afternoon, the South African Police Service (SAPS) reported that they had found an abandoned cash-in-transit vehicle in Kibler Park.

The incident is believed to be linked with a shootout which resulted in the death of four people in The Hill. The Southern COURIER reported, “Four people were killed earlier this afternoon in what appears to have been a shootout in The Hill.”

Glenvista Community Policing Forum (CPF) earlier reported via its Facebook page, “This afternoon at about 16:00 on Diagonal Street in The Hill TPS Security and SAPS were in pursuit of truck hijacking suspects when a shootout occurred.”

According to the CPF, the suspects were armed with AK47’S. The owner of TPS Security was fatally shot and killed in the fire fight. Two suspects were also killed in the exchange.

In a statement posted on Glenvista CPF’s Facebook page, the organisation believes a fourth person either another TPS Security officer or SAPS member was also shot and killed.

According to Comaro CHRONICLE reporter, Zesuliwe Hadebe, “The case is now referred to national SAPS.”
