Massive oil spill causes accidents in Robertsham

Vehicles slid from the huge oil spill suspected to have leaked from a truck.

ROBERTSHAM – A huge oil spill on Xavier Road, Robertsham, caused havoc on the road on Monday, July 20.

The newly appointed Booysens CPF Sector One public relations officer, Faj Sayed, said: “Three accidents took place before anybody notified us about the oil spill. We are not sure what could have caused it, but we suspect it could have been caused by a leaking truck. It looked a lot like dirty oil. In fact, even we were sliding on the road when cleaning the spill.”

Residents and motorists were impressed by the number of individuals who arrived and started cleaning up the oil. The volunteers came just after 07:00 and worked throughout the day until the early hours of the evening.

The road was opened to motorists from 15:30.

“To the patrollers and residents from Booysens Sector One who assisted at the oil spill scene, may God bless you and your families for the selfless work you did. There is no doubt that patrollers, Gauteng traffic officers, Turfontein Fire Brigade, JMPD, EMS and JRA teams helped save many lives and stopped many injuries. You all are awesome and much appreciated,” said Faj.
