Cleaning up for a greener SA

Cleaning up together can make a big impact on the environment.

MONDEOR – On Saturday May 30, Miss Earth South Africa contestants, DA’s Clr Sergio dos Santos and members of the party, Generation Earth council members from the Oprah Winfrey Academy for Girls, Sacred Heart, Wits Council members, St John’s learners along with local residents, met in Mondeor on the corner of Ormonde Drive and Fernhurst Road for a clean-up campaign.

Joining hands together.

“Cleaning up the Bloubos Spruit was a priority for us this weekend. The clean-up campaigns have been an annual project for five years, which bring about community building and a renewed ownership of public spaces,” said Catherine Constantinides, Executive Director, Miss Earth South Africa Leadership Programme.

Helping with the clean-up, DA members, front: Menzi and Wakhile Masango. Middle: Sihle Manganyi, Njabulo Masango, Nazrana Hogarth, Naeelah Dellwaria, Reuben Nkosi and Clr Sergio dos Santos. Back: Maxwell Nkosi, Gcina Masango and Phumelela Masango.

Many black bags were filled with rubbish from the spruit and banks alongside, proving how important the clean-up campaigns are for the environment.

“We’ve had a good turnout today and thank everyone who pitched up to help,” added Clr Dos Santos.
