Metrobus bad service irks users

Problems experienced by Metrobus patrons and Metrobus itself have become too much to bear

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – It appears the problems experienced by Metrobus patrons and Metrobus itself have become too much to bear.

Residents of Mulbarton, Meredale and Kibler Park have expressed dissatisfaction at the bad service they have to pay for and also the unpleasant attitudes of the drivers.

Meredale resident, Pessa Jordaan who uses the 313 bus weekly, complained that she has had enough of the actions by an allegedly rude driver.

The driver allegedly refuses to allow people on the bus if they don’t produce R21.40 exactly.

This also includes incidents of gross overloading on the evening bus to Kibler Park, where users of the bus are forced to hang on for dear life or fall out the door.

A motorist driving in Kibler Park on April 25, said she was almost crashed into by a Metrobus that yielded at a stop sign on Stamford Road.

Metrobus spokesperson, Ester Dreyer, responded: “Our greatest concern is the driver behaviour reflected through a small, minority and unidentified group, that seems not to be as diligent in their transportation process. In particular, the Metrobus service is most concerned about accidents involving passengers, damage to the rolling stock and damage to infrastructure.”

Dreyer elaborated about the entity’s expectations going forward, “We want all our drivers to enhance their general professional driving skills; we need regular and focused debriefing sessions with our bus operators to ensure a level of persona; comfort and stability in performing our functions.”

There will be a re-fleeting with 150 buses from June to combat late and non-existent services of buses.

In November 2014, Dreyer revealed to CHRONICLE reporter Zesuliwe Hadebe that the awarding of a tender of new buses was in its final stages at the City of Joburg.
