Car guards removed from Glenvista Shopping Centre

Glenvista Shopping Centre has taken a decision, which was not done lightly, to remove the car guards from the centre.

GLENVISTA –  “Unfortunately, due to the number of car thefts and incidents over the last 12 months we elected to take a dramatic approach to ensure the safety of our customers visiting the centre.

“The car guard industry is a callous one as the car guards were not employed by the centre but by a third party, who assigns them an area, who in turn charges the car guard daily rentals for the site. This leads the car guards to become aggressive and pushy as they have a daily limit to reach before they actually make R1.

“We have numerous centres where we do not have car guards, but have rather increased the security personnel and trolley assistants within the centre to assist customers, which we have now done at Glenvista Shopping Centre,” said management.

What does this mean to the customer? “You now have free parking within the centre, the newly employed trolley assistants and additional security are employed by the centre on a full time basis creating a steady income for themselves and their families. No need to feel obligated to tip as this service is paid for by Centre Management.

Additional Security guards have been posted to the parking lot and there is no obligation to the customers to tip them when visiting Glenvista Shopping Centre. We have implemented this practice at the other centres and have had great success,” management concluded.
