The Glen hosts Dis-Chem Brain of 702

Saturday February 14 wasn’t just for those in love and celebrating Valentine’s Day but also for the Dis-Chem Brain of 702 competitors.

OAKDENE –  The second quarter finals were held on at the Glen Shopping Centre and Hennie du Plessis from Roodepoort wowed the audience after winning, following a nerve-racking sudden death round with two other contestants. He won by gaining access to the competition through the wildcard round and walked away with R5 000.

The mall activation proved nothing less than exhilarating for spectators, players and even the judges as they watched on as the three remaining contestants took on the sudden death round. It was a fun-filled event and spectators and contestants got to meet their favourite 702 presenters, with 702’s traffic presenter Aki Anastasiou as the on-air emcee of the day while Aubrey Masango and Sam Cowen were the overall judges.

Hennie, along with five other contestants, were given 90 seconds to answer a train of 25 questions from quizmaster Stephen Grootes, 702’s host of The Midday Report on 702 and CapeTalk.

The annual competition gives those with a brilliant bank of general knowledge a chance to cash in and show off, both on-air and in front of a live audience at the weekly mall activations.

On air, the game starts on John Robbie’s show each morning, where the first two contenders are pitted against each other to answer the most correct number of general knowledge questions in 60 seconds. The winner takes home R1 000 and goes through to the next round in the following show. By the end of the day, the last contender standing is named the Brain of the Day and can claim another R1 000 Dis-Chem voucher if he or she can answer a bonus Dis-Chem question.

The Brains of the Day from Monday to Friday gather at a shopping centre on Saturday, where they are joined by a Wildcard contestant, chosen at the centre in a final round of quizzing that is open to anyone who comes to the activation. From these six finalists, one winner each week earns an additional R5 000 and goes forward into the semi-final which will be held on Saturday 28th February.

The semi-finals will determine the Dis-Chem Brain of 702 and that person will receive R15 000 and thereafter face the Dis-Chem Brain of CapeTalk in a head to head battle on the stations’ breakfast shows on Monday March 2. The winner of this on air contest will be named The Brain of Brains.

Followers of the Dis-Chem Brain of 702 are encouraged to get to the mall activations to experience the nerve-wracking excitement of the live quiz shows ably hosted and judged by 702 presenters, and possibly walk away with the spoils.

Players can also enter the completion online at www.702.co.za or via the 702 mobile app.

The dates and venues for the remaining activations are: Saturday February 21 – Menlyn Mall, Pretoria  and Saturday February 28 – Sandton City, Sandton

The Wildcard round starts from 10:00 and the on-air quarter final from 11:00.
