A new year for Eikenhof Women’s Institute

Members of Eikenhof Women’s Institute began the new year on a positive note, learning how to make new things from inexpensive items.

SUIDEROORD – Joy Boswell, president, showed the members how easy it is to recover placemats with either a plain or patterned serviette, make serviette rings from used toilet rolls, cutting them in half and covering with silver paper or tinfoil; and how to fold serviettes to resemble a lily.

One of the members, Jean Ross, showed the members a beautiful quilt she had made and encouraged the ladies to not sit idle but to keep busy. “Don’t say you can’t do something, always try first. Once you give it a go you’ll more often than not find the pastime easier than you thought and it’s good to stretch your mind and keep busy,” she said.

The members also enjoyed a game of bingo, finishing off with a delicious tea.

If you are interested in joining this group of lively minded women, they meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 09:30 at St Andrew’s Church hall, Burger Street, Suideroord. For more information, phone Joy 084 526 5857.
