Funky Dutch furniture launched

Dutch-made furniture brand Fatboy, known for their durable, iconic pieces, is now available in South Africa through Big Blue.

Popular today for their bold monochrome inflatable furniture, oversized lamps and elegant outdoor chandeliers, Fatboy started out in 2002 as a funky beanbag brand. It has since evolved into a multiline portfolio of home décor products, including 14 different coloured hammocks, dog beds, outdoor chandeliers, lamps, carpets and inflatable furniture.

“Fatboy can’t be pigeonholed. It’s much like Big Blue in that it’s a mix-match of everything, but with a singular theme underpinning it all – colour and functionality,” said James Robertson, co-owner of Big Blue, South Africa’s homegrown lifestyle and fashion brand.

Fatboy has featured in a number of headline-grabbing events and installations, including a recent Nike product launch in Paris, a Super Brands lounge at the London Design Festival, an outdoor cinema at Soestdijk Palace in the Netherlands, the Orillo Outdoor Cinema in York in the UK, and at the Maison et Objet trade fair in Paris. Celebrity Fatboy fans include actors Ethan Hawke and Owen Wilson, Italian ballet dancer Eleonora Abbagnato and Italian footballer Federico Balzaretti.

Handpicked Fatboy products are available in the 22 Big Blue stores scattered around Joburg, Pretoria and Cape Town.
