Creative flower arrangements at Eikenhof WI

The September meeting of the Eikenhof Women’s Institute invited member of the club, Anne Du Plessis, to show the ladies how to create a floral arrangement out of nothing much.

SUIDEROORD – Anne explained an arrangement doesn’t have to contain many flowers but small tree branches, twigs, and leaves can really compliment any arrangement.

“You can use any flat plate or dish and scrunched up wire can also be used to insert flowers and greenery into. Soak a block or piece of Oasis in cold water for a few minutes and place on your plate or in your dish.

“Cut flowers or greenery with a sharp knife at an angle, where water can be easily absorbed. If you are using flowers, always use an odd number.

Anne shows how using scrunched up wire can effectively hold blooms in place.

“People are often under the impression to make up an arrangement you need lots of flowers. This is not so and even one flower in the correct container can look stunning,” she said.

The morning was enjoyed by all, with tea and cakes served after the demonstration.
