Man protesting eviction bust with drugs

Illegal dweller arrested after nyaope was found in his rented room.

Update: Toddlers found locked up in suspected drug den

LINMEYER – A man who focused attention on himself by protesting the eviction of illegal dwellers at a hijacked home, was found to be the occupant of a room where a packet of drugs was uncovered.

Contracted movers who were removing property belonging to the dwellers stumbled upon a packet of a beige substance, which a police officer suspected to be drugs.

The police officer removed the contents from the room for inspection discovered it was nyaope. Police arrested the man.

When the illegal dwellers were questioned about who was renting the room where the drugs were found, although they weren’t told about the findings, the man renting the room was pointed out.

“The room belongs to Chris, the man who was just standing here,” said a woman who also alleged that they and other dwellers were being victimised.

The man, only known as Chris, together with a woman who also rents a room in the house suspected to be used by Nigerians as a drug den and brothel, were up in arms about the eviction. Chris and the woman can be seen in a video taken by CHRONICLE reporter, voicing their dismay and making the damning allegations against officials.

They presented CHRONICLE reporter with High Court documents containing information about the property, the new owner and the eviction application.

The two illegal dwellers claimed these documents were fraudulent as they allege that the new owner of their “home” had bribed court officials to issue the official stamps validating the papers.

However, the Sheriff of the court was at the scene to execute the eviction order, and it was also confirmed by police officials that the documents were valid.
