GLENVISTA – The fire began in the baby’s nursery, at the plug socket.
According to Sarah Wissler, a Glenvista resident, member of Glenvista Five Resident’s Association and CAT (Community Awareness Training) organiser, she told the CHRONICLE, “The mother was off work sick and smelt smoke coming from her baby’s room. She rushed in and managed to put out the fire with a ‘fire blanket’ which she had got from one of our recent training classes.
“The unit next door lost a TV and microwave through the power surge, which was measured at 395 volts. Two residents in La Paradise complex went to assist the mother and baby.”
The power surge was caused through vandalism at the substation in Laubscher Street. A call was put through to City Power, reference number – CPWEB357457.
The mother and baby have been taken to hospital after suffering smoke inhalation.
