Miles of smiles as children receive hoodies

ORANGE FARM – There were miles of smiles as 250 children who attend the centre for pre-primary education, as well as 90 staff members, received warm Jerseys4Jozi hoodies.

Jerseys4Jozi is a non-profit organisation started by Interact RDT as a way to give something back and for their team and clients to become involved in active community building.

They distribute hoodies made by a sewing co-op based in Orange Farm called Orange Craft to those less privileged living in Johannesburg. Having had overwhelming support from both corporates and the public, they have clothed more than 6 000 people since their inception in 2013.

Their focus is on growth and they also provide skills development and training and assist with job placements and work opportunities.

With the Buy One Donate One Initiative, for every hoodie purchased one is donated to a person in need at a cost of R300 for adults and R150 for children.

Afrika Tikkun, a giant in the NGO world, has the philosophy of Ubuntu as one of their core values. Ubuntu is about putting the needs of the whole community as a priority and serving others. Through Ubuntu, children are given the chance to grow into independent, self-sustaining adults who have something effective to contribute to South African society.
