EIKENHOF – As dawn broke a pallor of smoke could be seen hanging over the intersection as tyres had been set alight.
Police presence was high with JMPD and SAPS congregating as early as 05:00. Members of the riot squad were also on the scene.
As a huge crowd of rioters began to run into the intersection, tear gas was used to disperse them and they ran back into the veld.
By 06:30 traffic was badly affected as roads were closed only letting traffic through from Walkerville on the R550.
Rioting crowds kept reappearing on to the roads and they set more tyres alight.
The reporter left the scene at 09:00. JMPD, SAPS and the riot squad were still heavily present.
Six people have so far been arrested for public violence.
