Man shot at seven times on Vorster Avenue Glenvista

Charles Russell, who is a Risk Manager and drives an Anti Hijack Support Unit vehicle, was shot at seven times while chasing suspects from the Ford McCarthy dealership in Glen Eagles on Tuesday July 29 at 10:30.

GLENVISTA – Yesterday, suspects arrived at the Woodmead Ford dealership as new vehicles were being delivered and stole two brand new Ford Eco Sports vehicles.

The suspects and their vehicle, a NV 200 white Nissan panel van (registration CR 79PX GP, false number plates), were caught on CCTV camera and Russell recognised the same suspects in the same vehicle at the Glen Eagles Ford McCarthy dealership on Tuesday.

“The suspects saw I had recognised them and I tried to block them off but they managed to speed away in their vehicle, driving around the traffic circles by The Glen Shopping Centre and Builders Warehouse.

“I took off after them in my vehicle and followed them up Vorster Avenue, towards Sneeuberg,” Russell said.

As Russell drove over the brow of a hill the suspects had stopped in the dip and began shooting at him. “Thank God I dropped to the side when I saw they were firing at me and my vehicle veered over onto the pavement”, he said.  The suspects fled from the scene in the Nissan panel van.

Russell’s bakkie was hit seven times, twice in the front windscreen, the bonnet, bumper, radiator, and rear left wheel.

The area was taped off waiting for forensics to come.

Russell sustained a graze wound in his side from one of the bullets.

Mondeor SAPS and paramedics attended the scene.

As the CHRONICLE reporter was about to leave the scene, a call came through to another Motorvia employee who was with Russell, that Toyota McCarthy in Midrand had just had vehicles stolen after a delivery of new vehicles.
