Dumping in Turffontein continues

Turffontein suburbs is still used as a dumping site.

RESIDENTS in Turffontein are still complaining about the fact that their suburbs are being used as a dumping site. “Why does JHB city council still allow Turffontein area to be used as a dumpsite? Has things gone so bad that the city council has run out of space to dump and they are using the suburbs as a dumpsite now?” asked a concerned resident.

With reference to the corner of Eloff and Donnelly streets in Turffontein, the resident said: “My complaint stems from a previous complaint about how Turffontein is starting to resemble a dumpsite. This illegal dumpsite is on the corner of Eloff and Donnelly streets. It’s been here for more than six months. I also see how people make fire and burn their rubbish on this site.”

Comment from Councillor Rashieda Landis is as follows:

“I do like to comment on my side of Turffontein. I would like to appeal to the residents not to dump, as they are the ones responsible for these illegal dumping sites. There are nearby dumping sites, please make use of it. Yes, I agree that it is unsightly, but the residents are the contributing factor in this. If you see someone dump you must act, it is your area. Help us to keep it clean and liveable. Let us work together and keep our areas safe and clean.”
