Volunteering has never been so easy

Karen Landi from Eikenhof, who is involved with the Collection Hub, is now director of Community Hours SA, the first paperless, streamlined online programme in South Africa.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – “Many teenagers in the South and further afield wish to volunteer to assist charity organisations and many have no idea where to begin,” said Karen.

With this in mind Karen has launched Community Hours SA which encourages volunteerism. “I believe the youth can thrive in a global environment if they are equipped with a comprehensive skills set. Teenagers are encouraged to join Community Hours SA, who will help them get involved in accredited charities of their choice.

“We have gone to great lengths to ensure that stringent security measures are in place to protect all information provided by the children, parents and charities,” said Karen.

Teenagers are encouraged to register on the online portal.  It is safe and secure and teenagers are given the best volunteering opportunities available.  In the process they are also encouraged to start their own initiatives on the site, and in turn to promote more activities within the charities which call for volunteers, making sure charities themselves become more proactive.

“Our perception is that community service hours pose a challenge for both child and parent. This website aims to change all that. The process is free for the first six months for both child and charity, paperless and streamlined. Schools have also been placed under increased administrative pressure, and the Life Orientation teachers will benefit enormously from receiving digital updates directly on the system in respect of each child. No more filling out forms and checking on the authenticity of documentation. Digital certificates can also be printed by the teachers to present to the children on completion of different levels. In summary, the effectiveness of channelling the energy of our teenage, resourced market, will, we believe, have a profound impact on the underprivileged sector in South Africa. Relationships will be built, and the concept of mutual respect encouraged.”
