Taxi drivers and petrol attendants save a life

On Wednesday May 20 at about 14:30, Glenvista Community Policing Forum received a phone call from a distressed elderly resident who was trapped in a burning vehicle in Mulbarton.

MULBARTON – They contacted EMS and immediately rushed to the scene.

By the time the patrollers arrived, taxi drivers’ who park their vehicles across the road from where the burning vehicle had stopped, had seen the smoke and had run over to assist the driver.

Petrol attendants from the nearby Shell Garage also dashed to the scene and together they managed to get the elderly resident, on crutches, from out of the burning vehicle unharmed.

“Thankfully, with the fast response from the taxi drivers and petrol attendants, the elderly driver was saved.

“This could have had a tragic ending but instead it showed a humane and courageous act ,” said a woman who lives close by.
