Drug bust at Abbotts College

A 19-year-old student at Abbotts College Johannesburg South, was arrested on Wednesday April 23 for being in possession of suspected drugs.

SUIDEROORD – Principal, Mr Willem van Zyl, was doing a random search when he found the drugs valued at ± R2 500. It’s suspected the drugs are cocaine and heroin.

General Manager of Abbotts College, Tim Kemp was asked for comment. “We can confirm that one student was arrested on Thursday April 23 for the possession of illegal substances. The arrest was made after staff at the campus had conducted a proactive search of students. The authorities were duly notified.

“Abbotts College takes a very strong view against drugs and illicit substances. We conduct random searches and drug tests to ensure that our schools are safe for all students who attend. Abbotts College Johannesburg South is under new management and I am pleased that the principal, Mr Willem van Zyl is giving the problem of drug abuse the focus it requires. The management of the school will continue to work with the authorities where necessary.”
