R23 Million pothole repair in Oakdene

Almost R23 million will be dedicated to pothole repairs over the next few months.

OAKDENE – There is proof that the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) is trying to live up to their word by repairing the potholes in the South.

Ward 56 Clr Dennis Jane commended JRA for repairing the pothole on Boundary Lane, Oakdene. This is part of the R23 million that the company will be spending on road repairs over the next few months.

While watching the repair process, he said, “I must concur with a comment made by Penwell Dlamini in one of our morning dailies (The Times), ‘We need to do more patchwork on potholes before we come up with serious interventions’.

To support this comment, the pothole repairs I saw consisted of lining the asphalt edge of the pothole with tar and then merely filling the hole with the asphalt mix.

“While this process may close the pothole and save motorists having to avoid the many potholes on this stretch of road, we users of Boundary/Orpen roads are well aware of the short duration these quick fixes last before adjacent potholes develop. Despite this criticism, may I express my thanks to JRA on behalf of motorists for this work being done so soon after the constant rains we have had lately.”
