Wet weather brings trees down

Fallen trees due to wet weather occupy roads in the south, causing a headache for motorists.

GLENANDA – The wet weather conditions in Johannesburg have resulted in trees in various areas falling over onto the road, causing traffic congestion.

A big tree on Vorster Avenue, Glenanda occupied one side of Vorster Avenue on March 7, after the timber came falling down without warning, resulting in motorists taking turns to pass and use one lane just beyond the traffic circle.

Ms Motaung was on her way to collect her daughter, who recently started grade one at Kinston Academy. She said the traffic coming from the The Glen was bad as motorists on Vorster Avenue had the discretion of making way for other motorists. “They were at our mercy.”

The rain has shown no sign of letting up as it continued to pour after a whole week of constant rain during the week of March 3. The South African Weather Service predicted wet weather conditions in Johannesburg with percentages ranging from 80 to 60 percent.

In Alan Manor on Colworth Road another tree had fallen on March 9, blocking off the driveway and gate of residents. Fortunately for the residents, Mondeor CPF patrollers came to their aid and were able to remove the tree.

Again in Mondeor, a tree fell in Royalpark and Dunham Road. It had to be cut back by Sector 2 CPF patrollers as it was blocking the road.
