Robber tow truck driver spotted in the south

Thieving tow truck driver have been released on bail.

LINMEYER – A tow truck driver, who on November 25 was caught on CCTV camera robbing a vehicle, is reportedly operating in the south.

In the video, the driver can be seen smashing the window of a parked vehicle and helping himself to a laptop bag in broad daylight. The initial report was first made by the Star newspaper which is where the Linmeyer police first became aware of the tow truck driver and his vehicle.

Although the driver was reported in The Star newspaper to have been caught and arrested by police the following day, it is also reported that he was released on bail and is back on the streets of Johannesburg. No update has been made available yet on the charges and whether he was convicted for the incident that took place in the Johannesburg CBD and was caught on camera.

Linmeyer Community Policing Forum officers report that they have on more than one occasion seen the tow truck driver “scouting” the Linmeyer area.

“I immediately recognised the tow truck from the initial images on the news report and I followed him as he drove around the area. When he saw that I was following him, he stopped and asked me why I was following his car,” told Linmeyer CPF coordinator, Don. “He said he was here to tow a vehicle and he went into a residence, a few minutes later he came out with a green vehicle which he towed for a while, but he hadn’t bargained on me to be waiting for him when he came out. A couple of streets away, he unhooked the green vehicle on the side of the road and drove away.”

Residents are warned to be on the lookout for this man who is suspected by the CPF patrollers to be dangerous and very active in the south, also to be careful not to leave any valuables in their vehicles where they are visible to passers-by.
