GOLD REEF CITY: ON October 23, learners from various schools in Johannesburg gathered at Gold Reef City for the annual Tsogo Sun Arts Academy awards.
Dodo Nyoka represented Turffontein Primary with an outstanding performance; other routines were performed by groups such as Glitz and Glam, Cops and Crooks, Beach Party, Crazy Creepy and Freedom Kids SPARK among others.
“We would like to give thanks to the companies that have generously contributed and participated through this year to ensure the programme was delivered successfully and effectively in schools,” said Tsogo Sun representatives.
The crowd roared with excitement as soon as PJ Powers took to the stage to perform a tune written especially for the Suncares Arts Performance and Tsogo Sun participants. Parents and their children sang along to every word, enjoying every second.
Tsogo Sun Arts Academy was aimed at making a difference in learners’ lives by developing artistic talent as well as to provide life skills development to children using disciplines such as theatre, drama, singing, musical instruments, poetry, creative arts and literature.
“We also support the holistic educational framework by providing extracurricular activities and tertiary opportunities to learners. Arts development within the school environment was identified as an activity that is directly in line with the resources and ethos of Tsogo Sun, while also having a strong impact on the communities where the group operates.”
Tsogo Sun in partnership with Minimax Performing Arts has been providing children with a platform to express themselves through the performing arts for over 10 years and has been facilitating programmes in schools with coordinating staff members and facilitators who also receive weekly training.
This initiative was hosted with the assistance of companies including, Montecasino, Silverstar casino, Department of Education, National Eisteddfod Adjudicators, Xtreme Productions, Suncares Arts Academy to name a few.
