SA Climate Reality Activists mark “24 Hours of Reality”

South African Climate Reality leaders, Ella Bella and Catherine Constantinides yesterday marked 24 Hours of Reality at an event hosted at Tsogo Sun’s 54 on Bath.

THIS global awareness drive, spearheaded by leading environmental advocate, former US Vice President and Climate Reality Chairperson, Al Gore, is a global phenomenon aimed at educating the public about the true “cost of carbon” in numerous globally pertinent situations and settings.

The official event kicked off at 11:00 PST on October 22 and featured numerous expert led discussions, presentations and educational sessions at numerous locations across the globe. The South African event featured a Skype call with the former US Statesman, during which he addressed climate-related issues specific to Africa and South Africa.

The Nobel Laureate went on to congratulate the Miss Earth South Africa and Generation Earth organisations for all that they collectively do to assist with climate change adaptation, and touched on key points relating to the true global cost of carbon.

These were discussed in greater detail by Ella Bella and Catherine Constantinides when they presented the Climate Reality Project’s official presentation, to which they were first exposed at the Climate Reality Leadership Corps Conference in Istanbul, Turkey in June of this year.

The presentation focused on climate-related issues specifically affecting South Africa, such as drought and the implications thereof including famine, rising food prices and food shortage related conflict, as well as the true cost of South Africa’s coal dependent energy sector and the effects of the increasingly erratic global weather patterns.
