Celebrating over 100 years

"I live everyday making the most of what I have."

CROWN GARDENS: Maud Milne, a resident of Crown Gardens, reached the grand old age of 103 on Tuesday October 22.
Born in 1910, Maud is still very sprightly and quite capable, and she told the CHRONICLE how delighted she is to still be able to look after her home, cook and get about, with a little help from her friends.
“On Sunday October 20 we had a family gathering at Saint John Boscoe which was so lovely,” said Maud. She has been a parishioner for close on 60 years and said, “With God’s help we can do anything and he knows just what we need.”
On her birthday her friend Franco Rosso took her shopping to their usual place, Southdale Shopping Centre and they were treated to refreshments at Wimpy. “We’ve been friends for years and years. She’s such a wonderful person,” added Maud.
Maud still knits and does a bit of sewing. When asked if she enjoys TV, she said, “There’s nothing really decent on anymore but I make the best of it.”
Barabara Joseph and other friends of Maud’s organised a party for her, which she enjoyed thoroughly.
Maud had four children, two sons and two daughters but only one son is surviving. She also has 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
When asked what she thinks has kept her going for 103 years, she said, “Enjoying my life and appreciating everything. I’m very thankful to everyone for what they’ve done for me over the years and I’m lucky to have such good friends, as well as Emilene my domestic. I enjoy each and every day.”
