Consensus on the horizon between recyclers and residents

Piles of plastic bottles and recyclable material at the east side of Linhill soccer fields in Moffat Park a concern for residents.

Residents residing along South Rand Road in Linmeyer have been confronted by the disturbing sight of these piles of plastic.

In an effort to resolve the situation Clr Bev Turk and Clr Dennis Jane met with Pikitup, Environmental Health, JMPD and Urban Management officials from Region F and number of Linmeyer residents on Tuesday morning August 20. Discussions took place between the officials, councillors and the recyclers with a view to deal with the residents’ concerns.

These were some of the resolutions:

Recyclable Material – A summary of the arrangements is that as an act of good faith the recyclers would collect the plastic bags that have been blown across the veld. Discussions must now take place between Pikitup and the recyclers deciding on how the problem can be remedied.

Shacks – JMPD investigated the extent and should arrange removal of structures soon.

Illegal church tent – The Pastor was given leeway to find another site where he could operate legally. As he has dragged his feet for too long, Propcom have been requested to have the structure removed. Also the City has taken a decision not to allow them to make regular use of recreation centres.
