GALLERY: J29 Community Care fund-raiser a success
J29 gives vulnerable children and orphans a hope and a future by providing ongoing practical support to assist them with their development.
On October 17, Moyo Africa Empire ran a fund-raiser at Doppio Zero in Bassonia to raise funds in aid of the NPO j29 Community Care.
Moyo’s founder and director Laurette Marais has been acting as an ambassador for j29 since August 2020 after Covid-19 restrictions were eased. She has since been assisting various outreach programmes through j29 to empower and uplift the beneficiaries they support monthly with food, clothing and educational assistance.

Laurette organised an event called Mirror Your Inner Beauty with the help of j29’s project director Claudia Dippenaar; Nikita Dippenaar, Moyo’s marketing manager; Celine Mainguy, owner of Bravacious; Tina Dos Santos, owner of Bodylicious Meyersdal and Di Thompson, owner of Dimanzi.
The event included a delicious brunch and a spectacular fashion show.
The highlight of the day was the two runway shows that featured fashion ranges of two local businesses in the Alberton area.
The first show featured a swimwear range that you can find at Bravacious in 64 Michelle Avenue, Randhart.
The second runway was an unforgettable display of African-inspired formal wear that is made by up-and-coming local brand Omari, run by Eunice Matondo.
Follow Omari’s Instagram account to see a varied range of apparel. Claudia and Laurette are extremely thankful to the generous sponsors who made gifts and prizes available for the day, and to all the women who made the day one to remember after the worst of this trying time as a result of Covid-19.
“The day was a huge success thanks to all involved. We are looking forward to many more programmes and fund-raisers in the year to come to empower and uplift j29 to touch even more lives of the orphans and widows in the greater community,” said Claudia and Laurette.
