A surprise visit from Santa had the children screaming with excitement as he listened to their last-minute Christmas wishes.

ANIMAL Anti-Cruelty League Johannesburg (AACL JHB) held their inaugural Carols in the Barn fund-raiser at Penbritte Equestrian Centre in Eikenhof on November 23.

Animal lovers came together on the day for an evening of joyous songs and celebration.

The talented Vivacious Sounds Choir and the Salvation Army brass band led the guests in Christmas jingles and carols.

Guests were able to browse through the stalls of an artisanal craft market, while children were entertained with pony rides.

What is AACL about?

AACL has been protecting and caring for animals since 1956.

It is one of the largest independent animal welfare organisations in South Africa, relying entirely on the generosity and goodwill of the animal-loving public for financial support.

Marketing manager for AACL JHB Carren Nickloes said, this year, all funds raised through the Carols in the Barn initiative will contribute towards ensuring AACL JHB is able to continue protecting and caring for animals in the community beyond 2020.

“On behalf of us all at AACL JHB and the animals in our care, we would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors and the community for their support and attending our Carols in the Barn 2019 initiative,” said Nickloes.

The organisation provides shelter for abandoned animals, promotes an efficient adoption programme, prosecutes animal cruelty cases, runs welfare hospitals for lower-income groups and visits underprivileged areas with fully equipped mobile clinics.

“As a non-profit organisation we are constantly working on where our ‘next rand’ will come from and due to an ever-increasing limitation on donors and non-existing government funding, increased pressure is placed on us to be more creative in our ability to not only raise valuable funds, but to find new and valuable partners to make this happen,” Nickloes said.
