GALLERY: Great expectations with Woman of Stature

A lovely morning spent on the patio of the Kraal Restaurant at Thaba Eco Hotel was enjoyed by all who attended.

Women who attended the Meet and Mingle new South Chapter Joburg West meeting of Woman of Stature on November 5 enjoyed a wonderful morning together, with leader Shereen Hunter sharing some thoughts.

“What percentage of your brain do you consciously use?” she asked, with the answer shocking some of the women.

“We only use two per cent, which means 98 per cent is what we don’t have control of. All our information from being a youngster is stored in our minds and although some things are worth remembering, some we have to let go of.”

She went on to say each of a person’s truth doesn’t make it a truth, also the saying a problem shared is a problem halved is in fact, a problem multiplied.

“Sharing our problems with others mean we give over our problem to them and so they also worry. Let go of negative thoughts and let positive things into your mind and body.”

Each of the ladies shared some of the ways they handle their problems and Shereen asked the group to think of three great expectations they are hoping for. Most did have great expectations, but doubted they would materialise.

“You have to learn to manage your expectations and if you expect something from someone and you are afraid you won’t receive it, ask them what their expectations are of you,” added Shereen.

One of the members said: “I’ve learnt to lower my expectations of people. Not everyone will do what I expect of them. It’s a hard lesson to learn, but an important one.”

Another added: “I tend to judge people by my own set of standards, with loyalty and commitment being very important to me. I’ve realised after many disappointments not to expect too much from others.”

Shereen finished off by saying: “As we go into the festive season, embrace your two per cent and communicate it to others and then ask what they expect of you.”
