Blue lights flashing – do you stop or not?

The CHRONICLE asked residents if they think it is still safe to stop when you see flashing blue lights behind you.

IN light of recent attacks on community members in our area by men posing as police officers, the CHRONICLE asked residents if they think it is still safe to stop when you see flashing blue lights behind you.

CALVIN SHORTRIDGE: “I don’t think it’s safe to stop. Even if they are police they might be just looking for bribes.”
TANYA SMIT: “I don’t feel safe stopping for blue lights and would rather drive to the nearest police station.”
NDUDUZI NIEKER: “I won’t stop. I don’t trust anyone and would rather keep driving to a garage.”
MATHISO KHLALELE: “If I think it’s the police I will stop. If they don’t look like it I will keep driving to a garage.”
ALOUISE RAWSTORNE: “As a woman and a parent I will not stop and will drive to the nearest petrol station or police station. No one is safe anymore.”
KEVIN HARMSE: “All people have the right to stop where they feel safe, so if I don’t feel safe stopping for a car with blue lights on a quiet road at night, I won’t do it. Safety is a basic right.”
ERIC MATHE: “It’s a problem because it might be one of two situations. It might be police or it might be a crook.”
BETTY GOQA: “I am scared to stop and would rather keep on driving to a place where I can find help. In today’s life, one must be extra vigilant.”
PETER CHAUBE: “Drive to a garage. If it is the police they will drive there with you but if they mean harm they won’t follow.”
DAMON ANTHONY: “I will check if it’s a proper police van following me. If it’s just a normal car with blue lights I won’t stop.”
KEITH NDLOVU: “It would be hard to get me to stop. They will have to prove who they are somewhere where there’s a lot of people.”
