Residents’ thoughts on recycling

Recycling will be mandatory for all Joburg residents with effect July 1 2018, the community should get involved.

FROM July 1 it will be mandatory for all residents in Johannesburg to practise recycling. The CHRONICLE recently took to the streets to get a glimpse of residents’ thoughts on recycling and whether or not they will be taking part in the initiative.

LORELLE BENNET: “Our environment needs us to keep it safe and clean and recycling is one of the best ways the community can get involved and I will definitely ensure I always recycle. It doesn’t come with a heavy price. We just need to put some effort in and recycle.
CHEVI GOMBARD: “Making recycling mandatory for everyone is indeed a great step towards ensuring everyone participates in keeping the environment clean and safe, everyone should recycle.”
COSMAS MWAGHAZI: “Recycling should have been mandatory a long time ago. I believe it is the only way we can have everyone involved in keeping the environment clean. Just look at what is happening in Cape Town, it’s all because people do not recycle.”
MARIAN JOHNSON: “I have always been recycling and actually I have four separate recycling bags, one each for paper, plastic, tin and glass. I always make it a point to recycle and I will continue to do so.
