MEC to host admissions open day

To date, 94 per cent of Grade one and 94 per cent of Grade eight applicants have been placed - GDE

THE Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) will host an admissions open day on October 24 to address stakeholders on the status of school readiness and learner admissions in the province.

MEC of Education in Gauteng, Panyaza Lesufi, will address all school principals and their School Governing Bodies at the open day, from 09:00 to 11:00, to be held at the TicketPro Dome.

Lesufi said he anticipates that this event will create an opportunity for the department to offer placement for all unplaced learners, with a waiting list A number, at schools where there is available space.

A statement by the GDE stated that, to date, 94 per cent of Grade One and 94 per cent of Grade Eight applicants have been placed. All schools which still have unplaced applicants have submitted lists of unplaced learners to the district offices. These learners will be assisted during the open day to facilitate placement for the first day of school in 2016.

District officials and principals of all schools in the province will be there to assist parents. Approximately 10 000 parents are expected to be at the TicketPro Dome.
