Fans show true colours

Springboks supporters enjoyed the match at Boksburg Fan Village.

SUPPORTERS showed their true colours when they watched the Springboks beat Samoa in their first win of the 2015 Rugby World Cup (RWC) at the Boksburg Fan Village on Saturday, September 26.

SA beat Samoa 46-6 at Villa Park in Birmingham.

The Boksburg Fan Village was packed with enthusiastic fans cheering on the Springboks to record their win against Samoa after suffering a devastating loss to Japan in their opening encounter.

The South Africans scored six tries in a bruising match-up with JP Pietersen dotting down three times – his first hat-trick in a Springbok jersey. Bryan Habana scored his 60th test try in the dying moments of the match, while Schalk Brits got his first in the green and gold. Schalk Burger also crossed the tryline.

Man of the match, Handré Pollard, contributed 14 points with the boot via four penalty goals and a conversion, while Pat Lambie added a conversion. Samoa’s points came courtesy of the boot of Mike Stanley, who kicked two penalty goals in the first 12 minutes.

Springbok captain Jean de Villiers injured his jaw in the match and later announced his immediate retirement from international rugby.
