Soccer festival back for more

The MultiChoice Diski Challenge is a programme which includes a reserve league of all 16 PSL clubs.

THE second edition of the MultiChoice Diski Challenge will kick-off with a festival weekend at the Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa on Saturday, September 5.

The MultiChoice Diski Challenge is a programme which includes a reserve league of all 16 clubs playing in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

“We’re looking forward to unleash the next football sensation in the second season of the Diski tournament. Season one produced breakout stars like Menzi Masuku who is now a regular pick in the Orlando Pirates starting line-up and was awarded goal of the season at the PSL awards. Other breakout stars include Hendrick Ekstein of Kaizer Chiefs, who is being hailed as the player to watch this season in the PSL and Denwin Farmer who recently made his PSL debut for SuperSport United in a win against Orlando Pirates,” commented group CEO for MultiChoice, Imtiaz Patel.

The groundbreaking initiative is a three-year partnership with the PSL with the focus on building the PSL’s reserve league in order to fast track the clubs’ u.23 players into their first teams. Teams are also allowed to field a maximum of three players over the age of 23 in their starting XI.

The new format will be a 16-team league with each club playing against each other once. The club with the most points at the end of the tournament’s match day 15, will become the second season champions of the MultiChoice Diski Challenge.
