Pauw announces All Africa Games squad

Banyana Banyana’s squad-22 has been announced for the upcoming 2015 All Africa Games.

“THE All Africa Games is very important to us, but our emphasis is on qualifying for the Olympics and we will do anything to get the status,” said Banyana Banyana head coach, Vera Pauw.

She announced a squad of 22 players for the 2015 All Africa Games which will take place in Brazzaville, Congo from September 3 to 18.

Pauw has kept the bulk of the squad that has done duty for South Africa in the last few matches.

Two players will not travel to the Congo as Banyana Banyana is only allowed 20 players for the tournament.

The overseas-based players have been left out because the tournament falls outside the FIFA calendar.

Jermaine Seoposenwe, Robyn Moodaly, Kelso Peskin, Kaylin Swart and Thembi Kgatlana were not released by their clubs. Goalkeeper Roxanne Barker from Iceland is also a doubtful starter and will not be available for the first two matches.

The team has been drawn in Group B alongside Cameroon, Ghana and Egypt while hosts Congo are in Group A with Nigeria, Tanzania and Ivory Coast.

The South Africans open their encounter against Cameroon on Monday, September 7, at the Stade de l’unite 3.

Kickoff is at 18:00 SA time.

Banyana Banyana will face Ghana at the same venue on Thursday, September 10, with the same kickoff time.

South Africa’s last group stage encounter will also be played at the same venue on Sunday, September 13, against Egypt. Kickoff is also at 18:00 SA time.

Banyana Banyana is currently in camp and will join the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) as part of the Team South Africa squad on Saturday, August 29.

They are expected to leave for Congo on Wednesday, September 2.
