Disabled parking bays still misused

A resident reiterates that disabled parking bays are meant to be used only by disabled persons.

A RESIDENT of Glenvista, who wishes to remain anonymous, contacted the CHRONICLE complaining that customers at the Glenvista Shopping Centre have a disregard for the disabled, as they park in the disabled parking bays on a daily basis.

According to this man, the centre’s security allows this to happen and the motorists who break the rules are not punished.

Marketing manager of development Claire Morgan responded: “Glenvista Shopping Centre does not condone the mistreatment of the disabled parking bays. We strive to ensure that the comfort of our shoppers is not compromised and, as such, we have provided free open and covered parking bays for our shoppers.

“A number of marked bays for disabled shoppers can be found at our entrances. The security as well as the trolley assistants have been instructed to assist in the control of these bays, ensuring that they are available for shoppers who require them.

“The safety and shopper experience are of utmost importance to us, and we are proud to report that incidents within the centre have dropped by 200 per cent since the implementation of the additional security guards and trolley assistants within the parking areas.

“We would like to urge the community to respect the bays demarcated for the disabled and to utilise one of the other bays. If you are utilising one of the disabled parking bays, please ensure that your disability sticker is visible when the vehicle is parked, to avoid any confusion.

”We

would like to thank both yourselves and the gentleman for bringing this

to our attention, as further investigations will be taking place

regarding the disabled parking.”
