Help elderly raise funds for home extension

The fundraising event is set to be a banger with a long line-up of live Portuguese music entertainment

LINMEYER – A Portuguese fete will be hosted by Casa Ebenezer Old Age Home, at the corner of Forest and 11th streets in La Rochelle, in Pioneer Park, on Saturday.

The fundraising event is set to be a banger with plenty of live entertainment on offer. The line-up includes Duo Jovial, Rancho, Casa dos Poveiros, as well as plenty more Portuguese music and Portuguese folk dancing.

Delicious Portuguese dishes will be on sale and residents can expect traditional stew, sardines, pregos, piri piri chicken, caldo verde and a variety of Portuguese desserts and drinks. Stalls will be offered at a reasonable price of R220 for businesses or residents who want to exhibit their products. There will also be a mini market, arts and crafts, a children’s corner, face painting, games and jumping castle. Entry per vehicle is R20.

Casa Ebenezer opened their doors on May 1, 2009, where seven elderly ladies were accommodated. Since then, the old age home has celebrated six years of existence. This year Casa Ebenezer is reaching out to residents to assist them in extending their home.

There has been a growing demand for men’s and couple’s accommodation, however, they only have enough room for the seven elderly ladies currently residing there.

The simple request by the elderly at Casa Ebenezer is donations to help them extend their home to cater for more elderly folk who need residence and care.
