Safe healthcare starts with clean hands

Mulbarton nurses save lives, one clean hand at a time, for International Hand Hygiene Day

MULBARTON – Efforts by Mulbarton Hospital nursing sisters and the matron proved a welcome distraction to patients and visitors as they commemorated International Health Professionals Hand Hygiene Day on May 5.

The sisters went around the hospital with disinfectant liquid, making sure that every pair of hands they came across was germ-free. Clean hands were not all the sisters achieved. They also left behind a wake of smiles in the ICU, paediatric ward, reception area and every corridor.

Mulbarton Hospital Matron, Maureen Khoza said, “We’re increasing awareness on hand hygiene and educating patients on the importance of clean hands because it can prevent infectious diseases. It all starts with clean hands and we at Netcare promote hand hygiene.”

The day was declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) and this year marked the seventh year of the SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands campaign.
