Armed robbery at intersection near Eikenhof

JOHANNESBURG – South motorists reacted with shock after witnessing brazen armed criminals robbing a victim at the traffic lights on the corner of Old Vereeniging and Gordon roads in Kibler Park.

Eyewitness Jared Selway notified residents on February 16 about what happened, saying: “Everyone please be extra vigilant at the robots coming down the hill from Southgate, just witnessed an armed robbery. Three men with rifles in a metallic blue three series BMW robbed two cars at robot, then sped off into Kibler Park. No one seems to be hurt.”

Other onlookers also took to social media to urge vigilance by motorists when waiting at the traffic lights.

“When I reported to the metro at an Eikenhoff intersection, all they said was that’s not our area. Great help that was,” vented Selway.

Just one other traffic light away from where the armed robbery occurred, an intersection in Eikenhof notorious for hijackings, stabbings and the stoning of cars came under the spotlight, after an elderly woman’s vehicle was stoned in an attempted hijacking. She was stabbed in the head and neck.

Concerned residents who were outraged by the incident have told the CHRONICLE that these shenanigans by the hijackers have been going on for some time now, and pleaded for visible policing in the area and at the intersection.

“I am shocked by what happened. I know the area very well and the intersection is very dangerous. There are a lot of people who stand there pretending to be hiking, while their friends wait in the bushes. The area is also a very high accident zone,” said a South motorist.

“I usually visit the area in December/January. I usually don’t stop at those robots at night unless there are cars coming.”

The man added that he wished the relevant officials would ensure that the trees and overgrown grass would be cut as that is where these criminals hide before an ambush on unsuspecting motorists who slow down at the traffic lights.
