The Bag Lady’s food ideas when it’s load shedding

Considering load shedding is going to be with us for a while, The Bag Lady has a few food suggestions.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Make sure you always have tinned, packet food, salad ingredients, fresh fruit and bread at hand.

Tinned and packet food – Tuna fish, corned meat, smoked mussels, Provita, other salted crackers, olives and nuts.

In your fridge – cheese (at least three varieties – cheddar, mozzarella, cream cheese), ham, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, celery, baby corn and fresh fruit. Most housewives usually have mayonnaise, mustard, salad dressing etc.

With these ingredients you can throw together a delicious salad; cheese and biscuits with olives and grapes; a healthy sandwich or a platter of finger food.

As well as being convenience food, it’s also healthy.

Enjoy a glass of wine or fruit juice and finish off with tinned/ fresh fruit and boxed custard, or long life ‘fresh’cream.

Evening load shedding will of course call for……… candles. How romantic is this!
