GDE responds to admission challenges at schools

Admission challenges at schools in Mondeor have a father of a young boy calling for intervention by Education department

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – The Gauteng department of Education, in a response to Mr Shaikh’s crisis, said they are aware of the admission challenges in the area and expresses concern about the matter.

“The district admission team is currently collating data for all learners that reside outside of the 5km-radius of Naturena Primary School. This is to ensure that we procure scholar transport for the learners. We therefore request all the parents whose children will attend Naturena Primary to go to the school for registration to be included in scholar transport. Thus far we have picked up that there is only four learners who registered for transport,” said Gauteng Education departments spokesperson Phumla Sekhonyane.

“We expect about two per cent learner growth each year in this province. While we do everything possible to register these learners during the learner admission period, there are still parents and learners who arrive on the first day of school looking for placement.”

Meanwhile the illegal taxi rank on Columbine Avenue and Frandaph Drive in Mondeor, where the transportation parks of the children living in outside areas and attend schools in Mondeor had residents seeing red for months.
