A PEDESTRIAN lost his life trying to make it across the road on the R28 near the M1 in Southgate and was confirmed dead on the scene.
According to reports by Netcare911, it was determined that the man was running across the road when he was tragically knocked over by a vehicle.
The cause of the accident and preceding events are unknown and remain the subject of a police investigation. Metro Police Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said he would investigate the incident and the circumstances leading to the death of the man.
“Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the lifeless body of the man lying on the road after he was knocked over by the motor vehicle. Upon assessment of the man they found that he had already lost his life due to the extensive injuries sustained during the accident. Tragically the man was declared dead at the scene,” Netcare 911 Media Liaison Officer Santi Steinmann said.
Traffic was affected as a result of the accident and motorists have been warned of delays in traffic on both ways.
